Hygiene Kits for the Homeless: May 19, 2019

Today’s service (Fifth Sunday of Easter) was our periodic Gentle Spirit Christian Church homeless ministry work. GSCC and Decatur Rotary Club volunteers packaged hygiene kits at our Candler Park pavilion. Next, we distributed over 450 kits to the homeless downtown in various common areas. The smiles on the faces of each homeless loving soul as we handed kits to them were genuine, gracious, and humbling.

Thank you to all who donated product to help us build and deliver these kits. God bless you all! A special thank you to First Christian Church of Decatur for your endless, loving support. Also, a big shout out to the folks from the Rotary Club of Decatur whose commitment and participation in this ministry is so outstanding! God’s blessings upon all of them!

We do this ministry three or four times a year. We still need more product for hygiene kits. We want to give out more kits as homeless numbers grow! We especially need dark socks and trial-size deodorant. These are the most-requested items the homeless ask from us. Click here to learn more about supporting this ministry.

But he’s already made it plain how to live, what to do,
what God is looking for in men and women.
It’s quite simple: Do what is fair and just to your neighbor,
be compassionate and loyal in your love,
And don’t take yourself too seriously—
take God seriously. (Micah 6:8)

God bless you on this beautiful day!

Hygiene Kits for the Homeless: February 10, 2019

We’re grateful to have been able to assemble hundreds more hygiene kits for distribution to local homeless people yet again on February 10, 2019, and we look forward to our next opportunity this spring.

This ministry happens in three phases:

  • Collection of supplies (see below) year-round.
  • Assembly: In Candler Park, picnic Pavilion 2, in place of our regular Church Without Walls worship service. Volunteers are welcome!
  • Distribution on the streets of metro Atlanta.

For more information, including the ingredients list for a standard kit and more background on this ministry, visit our Metro Atlanta Homeless Ministry page.  We’re grateful for the ongoing support of the Rotary Club of Decatur and First Christian Church of Decatur.
